AFSCME Florida Statement on Recertification Win at City of Oakland Park
Today, after weeks of mail-in voting, the members and workers represented by AFSCME Local 2526 voted overwhelmingly to recertify their union. That means the citizens of Oakland Park will benefit from the city’s workers having a strong union contract following the vote count showing 100% in favor of recertification.
AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement:
“It is fitting that this recertification victory comes during National Public Service Recognition Week. Oakland Park relies on their park rangers, building inspectors, code enforcement officers, library technicians and so many others to make their city the best it can be. And those dedicate public service workers rely on their AFSCME contract for the respect and dignity they deserve. Today’s vote once again shows that when workers have a chance to stand for their union, they do – every single time.”
