AFSCME Local 199 Statement on County Wage Disparity Report
“The hardworking men and women of AFSCME Local 199 were not surprised by the Miami Herald’s report on the great disparity in pay among county workers, including how many employees are compensated too far below what they should be for the professionalism, hours and service they put into the job. That is why last year we stood united behind a large and diverse bargaining committee to win a new contract that is lifting up our families and communities thanks to the elimination of pay cuts, furlough days and other damaging concessions imposed upon county workers during the Wall Street-inspired economic recession. Today, thanks to our members’ continued commitment to quality services and our productive relationship with the county commission, workers are looking forward to a guaranteed pay raise, holiday pay for holidays worked and other contract articles that will help to share economic prosperity across Miami-Dade.”
