Don’t new parents deserve time to focus on their family without worrying about their job?

When you are a new parent, having time to bond with your child and focus on being the best parent possible without worrying about your job is critical. That is why AFSCME has advocated for Paid Parental Leave provisions across the country for years.

On February 2, the Board of County Commissioners adopted a “Paid Parental Leave” Ordinance granting six (6) weeks of partial paid leave, a success for our union after a long advocacy campaign. This will allow Local 199 members to care for a newborn, newly-adopted child, or newly-placed foster child or children with 100 percent of base wages for the first two (2) weeks, 75 percent of base wages for the following two (2) weeks, and 50 percent of base wages for the remaining two (2) weeks.

To get this increase we are holding an election to update the language in our contract on Thursday, March 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with 4 voting locations around the county.
