Over the past few weeks, the hardworking blue-collar employees of the University of Central Florida represented by AFSCME Local 3345 voted by mail for the recertification of their union. This week, when the votes were counted, the results show the workers voted unanimously in favor of retaining their union with 83% voting in favor.

AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement:

“Our colleges and university couldn’t operate without these dedicated employees. They keep the campus and classrooms working, clean and safe so students and instructors can focus on the coursework, research and more they need for their degrees. They work goes largely unnoticed and unsung. Today’s victory shows why a union contract is so important to them – it guarantees them a voice, they are heard and they are respected. If our elected officials would just listen to them, they could avoid this waste of time and resources and instead keep focusing on making UCF a world-class university.”
