AFSCME Florida Statement on Announced Budget Agreement
AFSCME Florida executive director Andy Madtes released the following statement on today’s announced state budget agreement:
“For too long the men and women who have made Florida one of the premier places to raise a family, grow a business or enjoy retirement have done so without their hard work being justly compensated. No longer.
“Today’s announcement that state workers will see their first pay raise in a decade is thanks to the leadership of Sen. Latvala who led a bipartisan effort to ensure it made it into the final agreement. Their efforts were supported by state workers themselves who, from every corner of the Sunshine State, have been standing up, speaking out and rededicating themselves to serving the citizens of this state.
“Over the past few years, legislators of both parties in both chambers have taken the time to get to know state workers and understand the jobs they do. We look forward to continuing growing and fostering these relationships in the months and years to come.”
