AFSCME Florida Executive Director Jana Weaver released the following statement on Governor Ron DeSantis' state budget proposal:

“AFSCME Florida members are encouraged that the Governor’s proposed budget authorizes agencies to grant limited competitive pay adjustments as well as merit pay increases to high-performing state employees. However, in a state where the cost of living for many workers increased by well above 3 percent in 2018, this is simply not enough to ensure the financial security of the people that work hard to make Florida happen day in and day out.

“In a budget that has increased spending of $2 billion, there should be an across-the-board pay increase for state employees found in every county of the Sunshine State. As such, AFSCME Florida will continue to strongly advocate for fairness and respect for workers that have dedicated themselves to making Florida a great place to live. We never quit.”
