First AFSCME Florida Local Achieves Push for 60 Goal!
Every day, AFSCME members across the state are holding events, talking to coworkers and stepping up to make sure we save our contracts. That is what our Push for 60 campaign is all about – making sure SB 256 doesn’t take away our right to bargain for better pay, safe working conditions, health benefits for our families and so much more. It is hard work, but AFSCME members have always thrived when the stakes are highest.
Yesterday, Thursday June 29, AFSCME Local 871 became the first local to achieve the goal! In fact, they have not just reached the 60% membership threshold but have surpassed it - they are now over 81% and still going! This means that the hardworking men and women of the city of Miami’s Department of Solid Waste won’t see their right to a voice on the job disappear or let management rip up and their contract.
Go to www.afscmefl.org/join right now and do your part to save your contract by getting your local to 60%. It is time to step up for yourself and your coworkers!
Locals across the state are closing in on the goal, but there is still more work to do. And we have heard time and time again of supervisors who are hoping we come up short. Loss of clock-in grace periods, promised pay raises that will disappear, new workplace safety gear that won’t get ordered, days off taken back and PTO never paid out. Without our contract everything will be up for grabs.
Yes, even existing AFSCME members have to fill out a new card because of this new law. Click here to fill out your dues conversion and membership card today!
Have you already filled out your card and want to help your coworkers step up like you have? Click on the Save Our Contract logo at www.afscmefl.org/join and let us know who else should be in the local.
Together, we will reach our shared goal!
