Today, after the ballots were counted in their recertification election, the hardworking men and women represented by AFSCME Local 2227 retained their contract and rights on the job with more than 95% of the vote. These dedicated public service workers for the Polk County Public Schools will continue to have a voice in the services they deliver, safe working conditions and fair compensation.

AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement:

“With the new school year right around the corner we are glad that these members know their hard work and dedication will continue to be respected through an enforceable contract. We look forward to working with our members to rebuild their union and find opportunities for strengthening our voice with other units that were not able to be part of this vote. And we look forward to continuing to win more recertification elections in other school districts, counties and cities across the state.”
