AFSCME Florida Statement on Recertification Win for Polk County Schools

After the ballots for their recertification election were counted, hardworking men and women represented by AFSCME Local 2227 retained their contract and rights on the job with more than 93% of the vote. These dedicated public service workers for the Polk County Public Schools will continue to have a voice in the services they deliver, safe working conditions and fair compensation.
AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement:
“With another successful school year wrapped up, we are glad that these members know their hard work and dedication will continue to be respected through an enforceable contract. We look forward to working with our members to keep strengthening their union and look forward to continuing to win more recertification elections in other school districts, counties and cities across the state.”
