After two days of voting, the hardworking men and women of America’s largest city voted overwhelmingly to regain their union voice and contract through AFSCME. The workers, who will continue to be represented by AFSCME Local 1279, voted 81% in favor of their union, more than eight months after they filed the necessary show of interest cards with PERC.

AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement:

“We are so proud to stand with the men and women who make the City of Jacksonville happen every day. From libraries to fleet services, police and fire to public works, AFSCME members will continue to deliver the quality public services residents, visitors and businesses count on. We are already working hard with leaders across departments to rebuild this proud union after the delay in holding this election caused their certification to expire and uncertainty to spread. But let me be clear, AFSCME members were never going anyway because we never quit, we fight for our rights and our union because that is what we deserve.”
