Recently, Jesse Scheckner with Florida Politics wrote an article breaking down the threats public sector unions like AFSCME face with SB1296 now in effect. Now, before the ballots for a recertification election can even be counted, at least 50% of the entire bargaining unit must have voted. If less than 50% vote the union will be decertified, no matter the level of support of those who did vote.

Scheckner used the "lopsided recertification victories across the state" of AFSCME locals across the state "show that one of Florida’s largest public-sector unions has adapted to — and, by its own account, overcome — the challenges posed by a 2023 law championed by Gov. Ron DeSantis that imposed new membership and recertification requirements on many government-worker unions.”
